Critically ill patients on the Island are set to benefit from a new partnership between the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and the Island’s Ambulance Service. The scheme allows Island paramedics to spend time with the air ambulance team, gaining advanced critical care skills. Paramedic Izzy Horne has completed the programme and is now delivering enhanced care on the Island. The initiative aims to improve response times and patient outcomes.

A new children’s home could replace a four bedroom house in East Newport as Milford Del Support Agency seeks approval for a change of use. The proposal aims to meet urgent local need, with more than a third of children in council care living off the Island in 2023. The council supports the plan, saying more local places are vital. Public consultation ends on 7th January, with a decision due on 28thJanuary.

Two East Wight councils are opposing plans for a new Aldi store in Ryde. Ryde Town Council and Nettlestone and Seaview Parish Council have raised concerns about the proposed supermarket at Cothey Way, despite Aldi saying most residents supported it. The councils say access, safety and local impact issues remain unresolved. They also warn of traffic problems and effects on nearby homes. Public consultation ends on the fifth of December, with a decision due on the twelfth.
